What Is The Use of Cathodic Protection?

In order to lessen corrosion damage to active metal surfaces, cathodic protection is frequently employed. It is used globally to safeguard a variety of infrastructure, including water treatment plants, pipelines, ship and boat hulls, offshore production platforms, reinforcement bars in concrete structures, and piers. A cathodic system is frequently employed to prevent corrosion in steel. When two different metals are immersed in an electrolytic material, like water, dirt, or concrete, corrosion results. Free electrons can flow from the more active metal (anode) to the less active metal (cathode) via this kind of metal conducting channel between the two dissimilar metals.Ions at the active sites may recombine to form ferrous hydroxide, or rust, if free electrons from the anode do not reach the active sites on the cathode prior to the arrival of oxygen.
