Micropiles on the other hand are load bearing piles used to Retain Walls or Strengthen foundations. The advantage of the equipment lies in its installation which is relatively easy. Ideally, Tension and Compression tests and conducted on Micropiles once installed.
GCI executes Micropile projects using piles ranging from 100 millimeters to 350 millimeters in diameter.
Underpining
In order to understand the working of micropiles the concept of Underpinning needs to be addressed first. Underpinning is usually executed when an existing construction’s foundation begins to weaken. Though the processes may vary, it essentially involves increasing the area of the foundation so it extends to more secure soil or redistributes the foundation’s load over a larger area.
GCI, provide its services in design and construction of temporary and permanent pre-stressed Rock Anchors.
Rock anchors are post tensioned tendons that are secured in underlying rock or other competent surfaces. It transfers load from the unstable exterior, to the confined (and much stronger) interior surface.
Pre-stressed Rock Anchors are generally used for following applications;
- Slope Stabilization
- Foundation raft against uplift
- Pile Load Test
GCI, undertakes ground improvement projects across GCC. GCI, have executed ground improvement projects by using latest techniques available such as installation of pre-fabricated vertical drains, hydraulic stitches, special Earth in filling, stone columns, etc. GCI, owns specialized equipment required for ground improvement i.e., stone column attachments, hydraulic stitch attachments and modified cranes etc.
